• Key works at one angle but not another. Worn pins or a bent key blank. Sargent’s factory pinning is precise to .0015 inches, and once wear opens that tolerance, only repinning or cylinder replacement restores function.
• New key copies stick or jam. The original key was cut on a worn duplicator at a big-box store. We cut Sargent keys on a Framon or Code Machine with jaw-specific alignment; a rekey with our key blanks usually solves this permanently.
• Lock was rekeyed before and now fails again quickly. Previous technician used bottom pins where top pins belonged, or mixed brass and nickel-silver pins causing galvanic corrosion. We document what we find and show you the old pins.
• Master key still works after you were told it was eliminated. Builder or property manager left a master wafer in the chamber. This is a security gap, not a wear issue, and it requires full disassembly to locate and remove every master pin.

DIY or Call Us?

An owner can safely verify the Sargent model number stamped on the lock face and count how many keys they need; that’s useful information for the phone quote. What goes wrong with DIY rekeying: Sargent cylinders use a C-clip or E-clip retainer that launches across the room if compressed without a clip tool, and the pin springs are small enough to disappear into carpet permanently.
